WHAT WE DO
Auxiliary Programs
The mission of the Americanism Committee is to promote and recognize outstanding achievement in patriotism and citizenship and to instill these values in our youth.
Americanism work is largely educational in character and is usually divided into three phases: work with the youth, the adult, and the community. All matters pertaining to the flag or patriotic education are classified as Americanism activities. Every citizen should have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Constitution of the United States. The Auxiliary has a very definite objective in emphasizing through its Americanism program the teachings of good citizenship.
The mission of the Auxiliary Emergency Fund Committee is to raise funds for and awareness of the Auxiliary Emergency Fund, to promote knowledge about the program, to disseminate information to members about the application process, and to assist members in need.
The Fund was designed to assist eligible Auxiliary members who have suffered a financial setback and is meant to be a bridge offering a helping hand until financial stability is re-established. The Fund also includes educational grants for qualified members. Brochure is linked here.
The mission of the Children and Youth Committee is to work collaboratively with the American Legion to direct and sponsor programs and services that provide care and protection for our nation’s children, especially those of our military and veterans.
The Children and Youth program has two purposes: To assure care and protection for children of veterans eligible for membership in The American Legion; and To improve conditions for all children. The program also includes several principals such as preserving the integrity of the family home; maintaining a ‘whole’ child program encompassing all needs of children – physical, spiritual, emotional, and educational; and to cooperate with and strengthen other sound organizations and agencies for children.
The mission of the Community Service Committee is to work in cooperation with The American Legion to direct and sponsor programs and services that provide care and protection for our nation’s children, especially those of our military and veterans.
Study the needs in the community and cooperate with other organizations on practical, worthwhile projects for community improvement and solicit their cooperation with Auxiliary projects as well.
The mission of the Education Committee is to promote quality education for children and adults through classroom activities, literacy programs, scholarship promotion and support of education beyond high school.
The Education program helps make it possible for any student, who has the ability or the desire, to receive an education beyond high school; to make known to the potentially eligible students the sources of scholarships that exist.
The mission of the Girls State Committee is to provide an outstanding, unique and coveted educational opportunity to the young women of our nation that instills the basic ideals and principles of American government through the Girls State and Girls Nation citizenship training programs.
The purpose of Girls State is to provide citizenship training for girls who have completed their junior year of high school: to inform them about the duties, privileges, rights and responsibility of citizenship in order that they may understand and participate in the functioning of their government; and to help them grasp the meaning of some of the responsibilities which they must assume when they become adults.
