Love for the Service
President's Message
This is my Story.
I have had a deep passion and appreciation for veterans from a young age.
Growing up in Warner Robins, GA, a small Air Force town, I was surrounded by the military community. Every day felt like a military appreciation day, and it instilled in me a profound respect and admiration for those who have served our country. As a proud 2nd generation Filipina American, I have a special appreciation for my Grandfather and Grand-papa, both of whom dedicated their lives to serving in the Air Force as Vietnam Veterans.
Their stories of bravery, sacrifice, and commitment have always inspired me. It is not surprising that I ended up marrying an Iraqi Afghanistan Combat Veteran, who himself has made numerous sacrifices for our freedom. Witnessing the physical and emotional toll that war can have on our loved ones, from the effects of Agent Orange to Leukemia and PTSD, has only deepened my understanding of the immense sacrifices made by veterans and their families.
Prior to assuming the role of President, my dedication to fostering a deeper understanding of Americanism was already in motion. I eagerly engaged with local schools, imparting the values and principles that define our great nation to the young minds of our future. It was a passion born out of a profound commitment to instill the essence of American ideals in the hearts of our children, ensuring a brighter and more informed tomorrow.
In an effort to show my appreciation and support, I have actively volunteered with the American Legion Auxiliary since 2012. From assisting with community initiatives and organizing fundraising events to providing mentorship and support to individuals transitioning from military to civilian life, I have dedicated my time and efforts to positively impact the lives of those who have served.
I believe that the least we can do to honor the men and women who have selflessly protected our rights and freedom is to give back however we can. Seeing the impact of volunteerism firsthand, on both the veterans and myself, has been truly rewarding. I am committed to continuing my work within the veteran community, as it brings me immense joy and fulfillment.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for all you do to support veterans. I hope to inspire others to also express their gratitude and get involved in any way possible. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those who have given so much.
Madam President Chandra Young
